ABOUT BELIZE

Belize (formerly British Honduras) is a small country between Guatemala, Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The Belize people have protected 40% of the country as parks and natural reserves. With tropical forests, wildlife, mountains, Mayan ruins, world-class snorkeling and scuba diving, and many more activities, Belize is a paradise just waiting to be discovered.

The official language of Belize is English, although Spanish, Creole, Garifuna and Mayan are widely spoken throughout the country. The Belize Dollar (BZ$) has a fixed rate of exchange of BZ $2 to US $1. Most hotels, resorts, restaurants, and tour operators will accept U.S. currency, traveler's checks, or credit cards. When using your credit cards in Belize, most establishments will add a 5% service charge to your bill.

Most businesses are open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-5:00PM with an hour break at noon. Some businesses are open on Saturdays.
